Our Cloud Management Platform group is in search of passionate Backend Engineers responsible to develop and design our scalable microservices used to activate all Palo Alto Networks cloud products.

We are seeking experienced senior level Software Engineers to develop and deliver next-generation technologies within our Shared Services team. We want passionate engineers who love to code, build great products and bring new ideas in all facets of software development. Collaboration and teamwork are at the foundation of our culture and we need engineers who can communicate and work well with others towards achieving a common goal.

• Collaborate with development teams and product managers to ideate and design software solutions
• Design and develop robust backend services using 5 or more years of expertise GoLang, NodeJS
• Architect both client-side and server-side systems
• Develop and manage scalable NoSQL or SQL databases and applications
• Create effective REST APIs with support for versioning
• Write test-driven code to ensure high-quality software
• Produce comprehensive functional and design specifications
• Provide suggestions and ideas for framework improvements
• Develop data-driven software with a focus on a generic design approach
• Innovate and introduce new ideas to the team
• Proactively solve problems and deliver high-quality solutions

Your Experience

• MS/BS in Computer Science or equivalent or equivalent military experience
• Proficiency in GoLang, Node.js
• Proficiency in Docker and Kubernetes ecosystems
• Expertise in NoSQL, SQL or Graph databases
• Knowledge of infrastructure as code (IaC) tools like Terraform
• Understanding of DevOps practices, including observability and monitoring (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana)
• Experience with CI/CD processes
• Basic understanding of data security and protection principles
• Must have familiarity with testing frameworks and writing unit tests for Go, NodeJS applications
• Familiarity with event-driven architecture and message queues like Kafka, RabbitMQ
• Familiarity with common software stacks and data structures and algorithms
• Experience in writing secure code is advantageous
• Knowledge of various front-end technologies, libraries, and tools including NextJS, ReactJS is a big plus
• Experience with public cloud platforms such as GCP and AWS is a plus

• Contribute to the success of DevOps
• Develop expertise in new technologies
• Work with developers, researchers, data scientists, and security experts
• Design, build, and operate reliable, secure Cloud infrastructure
• Ensure that applications are production-ready, scalable, and reliable
• Develop tools and automation frameworks
• Automate robust deployment of robust services
• Orchestrate end-to-end monitoring and alerting
• Participate with DevOps in the on-call rotation
• Lead root cause analysis of critical business and production issues
• Mentor and champion DevOps culture
• Participate in design reviews

Required Qualifications

• BS or MS in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent professional experience
• Strong Linux administration, internals, and network troubleshooting
• Expertise in configuration management with a framework such as Terraform, Helm, or Ansible
• Experience in Production Engineering, DevOps, or Site Reliability
• Expertise in public or private cloud, especially GCP or AWS
• Experience in container or Kubernetes setup and configuration
• Capable to automate tasks with programming like Python, shell scripting or Golang
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, GitLab CI preferred
• Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot complex distributed systems handling high volume transactions
• Excellent written and verbal communication, able to collaborate and rally support
• Self-disciplined, self-managed, self-motivated and strong sense of ownership, urgency, and drive
• Passion for infrastructure and monitoring as code
• Ready to understand and dissect new technology stacks quickly
• Participate the on-call rotation

Compensation Disclosure

The compensation offered for this position will depend on qualifications, experience, and work location. For candidates who receive an offer at the posted level, the starting base salary (for non-sales roles) or base salary + commission target (for sales/commissioned roles) is expected to be between $126000 - $203500/YR. The offered compensation may also include restricted stock units and a bonus. A description of our employee benefits may be found here.

• Discover and create proof of concepts for new security vulnerabilities in Palo Alto Networks products and cloud offerings.
• Advance the state of the art in security research and bug hunting by developing novel methods for vulnerability discovery.
• Evaluate the security of Palo Alto Networks products’ code and architecture. Propose changes to improve their security posture.
• Perform root-cause analysis of vulnerabilities and work closely with product teams to develop and review secure solutions.
• Serve as a product security subject-matter expert when collaborating with Palo Alto Networks leadership and industry partners.

Required Qualifications

• Proven track record of discovering and exploiting impactful vulnerabilities in software (e.g. CVEs, bug bounties, talks.)
• Expert in secure programming, penetration testing, security architecture concepts, and offensive security techniques.
• Strong familiarity with Linux, low level operating system concepts, and networking.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, the ability to work both independently and collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills preferably demonstrated through technical blogs, write-ups, and talks.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience writing SAST rules and fuzzing/instrumenting complex applications to discover vulnerabilities is a plus.
• Participation in Capture the Flag (CTF) events, a local OWASP chapter, or similar security-focused communities is a plus.
• BS or MS Degree in Engineering or Computer Science, related to computer security, application security, information security, network security, or cryptography is preferred. Or equivalent military experience required.
