Security Engineering is a dynamic department within our Infrastructure Security business group that defines, develops, and sells Akamai's Infrastructure Security products.   • Owning underlying infrastructure and telemetry applications for Infrastructure Security, ensuring scalability, reliability, and efficiency
  • Scaling, maintaining, and enhancing core infrastructure security solutions by developing and optimizing backend systems
  • Growing and maintaining our On-Prem Kubernetes platform to ensure fault tolerance, scalability, and efficient resource use
  • Mentoring and leading junior engineers by conducting technical workshops and fostering a culture of continuous improvement/collaboration

Required Qualifications

  • Have 5+ years of relevant experience and a bachelor's degree in computer science or its equivalent
  • Be proficient in Python or Golang for backend development, with an emphasis on scalability, reliability, and performance
  • Have hands-on experience with Kubernetes, specifically in managing and growing on-prem deployments to support fault tolerance, scalability, and efficient resource use
  • Have experience with databases such as MySQL, MongoDB, or ClickHouse for managing and optimizing data storage /retrieval
  • Possess an understanding of networking principles
  • Demonstrate experience with Layer 2-4 networking, contributing to effective routing, load balancing, and DDoS mitigation solutions

Compensation

Akamai is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The base salary for this position ranges from $106,600 - $221,400/year; a candidate’s salary is determined by various factors including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications, and location. The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of an annual bonus or incentives, equity awards, and an Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP). About The Role

We are seeking a talented and motivated Lead Threat Detection Engineer to join our team and play a key role in advancing our detection capabilities through integrated threat research and intelligence-driven insights. This role offers significant growth potential and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on our threat detection strategies. You will collaborate closely with Product, Engineering, and Field teams to design, optimize, and deploy detection solutions tailored to evolving threat landscapes.

  • Conduct in-depth threat research to enhance detection capabilities by identifying and adapting to emerging threat vectors.
  • Develop, refine, and deploy detection rules and use cases, integrating intelligence-driven insights to maximize detection efficacy.
  • Collaborate with Product, Engineering, and Field teams to ensure detection strategies align with customer needs and product objectives.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to support threat hunting initiatives focused on adversary behaviors, Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures (TTPs).
  • Design and integrate new tools, automation, and processes to improve detection and investigation capabilities.
  • Support the onboarding of new SaaS service threat models, developing detection strategies to address new and emerging threats.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience in security engineering or threat detection, with a strong track record of impactful contributions.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with Product, Engineering, Field, and other cross-functional teams.
  • Familiarity with SaaS-specific threat models and cloud-native security practices.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex threat data into actionable detection strategies.
  • Experience developing and refining detection rules, use cases, and integrating intelligence into detection and response activities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated leadership experience, including mentoring and guiding teams in security best practices and detection strategies.
  • Expertise in developing and implementing automation solutions to enhance threat detection and incident response workflows.
  • Experience in containerized environments, cloud-native security solutions, and modern deployment practices (e.g., Kubernetes).
  • Prior experience leading cross-team detection enhancements and integrating various security tools.
  • Strong technical acumen in rule creation, threat hunting, and optimization of security platforms, tailored to emerging threats.

Our total rewards package includes the following:

  • Base Salary: The annual base salary compensation range in the U.S. for this role is: $161,826 - $218,942. Final offer amounts are determined by factors such as the final candidate’s skills, qualifications, and experience, as well as business considerations and peer compensation.

Who we seek:

The RVP Sales, West will be a key member of the Leadership Sales Team, reporting directly to the SVP, Sales North America. This role will be responsible for driving the execution of all sales initiatives and will ensure the short and long-term revenue of West Regional Sales.

  • Lead, inspire, and drive a team of 5-10 senior enterprise direct sales executives to meet and exceed assigned revenue targetsÂ
  • Set strategic direction of the team, including setting quotas, assigning account coverage, and sales forecasting
  • Proactively build regional sales projects including systems and process reinforcement in Salesforce, lead generation, and implementation of new tools and processes
  • Forecasting and performance management of the team to Area Vice President, East
  • Conduct weekly reporting with the sales team on meetings delivery and revenue performance
  • Partner with key members of the management team for predictable achievement of overall sales metrics

Required Qualifications:

  • You will have minimum 10 years of first line sales management experience selling enterprise software large enterprises
  • B2B Enterprise Cyber Security / SaaS scaling experience selling data securityÂ
  • Excellent business strategy instincts; able to perform in a challenging, changing environment
  • Must demonstrate excellent written, verbal and presentation skills
  • Must be results oriented, have high integrity and a desire to be part of a world-class, rapidly expanding technology company
  • Outstanding sales and leadership skills
  • Strong track record of recruiting, developing and retaining a high performing enterprise sales organization
  • Proven track record of successfully closing six and seven figure software licensing deals with partners, prospects and customers in the defined territory

The annual base salary range is $175,000 – $200,000. Actual salaries will vary and are based on a candidate’s qualifications, skills, and competencies.
